Legislative:
1)
MAPCED testified during the 2006 legislative session
on behalf of MAPCED’s Legislative Platform to support our
members legislative concerns on Statewide economic
development issues.
2)
MAPCED’s 2007 Legislative Platform was also approved by
AMC Ag and Rural Development Task Force and the General
Government Committee for comment and approval in the AMC
Platform.
3)
The 2007 MAPCED Legislative Platform was presented to
the DEED Acting Commissioner Ward Einess to share MAPCED’s
position and offer support for the DEED programs and
initiatives.
Rules and Policy:
1.)
MAPCED was instrumental along with the AMC’s Ag and
Rural Task Force in streamlining the Small Cities
Development Program.
2.)
MAPCED held two meetings at DEED to discuss concerns
and gain a better understanding of the roles for the DEED
Business Services Representatives and Workforce Investment
Board. MAPCED also offered suggestions for better utilization
of the resources.
3.)
MAPCED worked through AMC to mitigate the impacts of
the Eminent Domain legislation that passed the 2006
legislature.
Marketing and Membership:
1)
MAPCED participates in the AMC annual conference by:
a.
Staffing a vendor booth as an opportunity to educate
and answer county commissioners’ questions.
b.
Providing economic development educational
opportunities through workshops.
c.
Inviting commissioners to a MAPCED quarterly meeting
held in conjunction with the conference.
d.
Providing a reception for the commissioners and other
county officials to visit with MAPCED members.
2)
MAPCED members presented at the DEED Annual Conference
to present county economic development issues.
3)
MAPCED continues to encourage membership from
non-member counties.
4)
MAPCED became a member of Positively Minnesota
supporting a statewide marketing effort.
Education:
1)
MAPCED serves as the educational resource on economic
development for county commissioners through presentations
at AMC meetings and working with the AMC Ag and Rural
Development Taskforce.
2)
MAPCED provides assistance to counties who are
considering economic development services in their county.
Communications:
1.)
MAPCED developed a web page for communications for
members and outreach to non-members.
2.)
MAPCED regularly provides legislative and other
pertinent economic development information to members through
E-mail updates.
3.)
MAPCED provides important networking opportunities at
quarterly meetings.
