BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER JOB POSTING

The Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission (EDC) is hiring a full-time (40 hours per week) Business Development Manager.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience in business retention/expansion/recruitment, assisting business startups and/or commercial/industrial development to strengthen the overall tax base resulting in the enhancement of a community’s quality of life.  Experience in grant writing, broadband development, child care industry support, or workforce development is a plus.  Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, economic development, finance, city planning or related field, and at least three years of experience.

Economic Development Manager

SWIF is actively seeking a dedicated and dynamic Economic Development Manager to manage the planning, coordinating, and executing our robust economic development programs. The ideal candidate will bring a genuine passion for rural economic development, coupled with a proven ability to navigate government programs seamlessly. This role requires a unique skill set that includes adeptly managing ambiguity and variables, exercising patience, embracing humility and dignity, fostering a mindset of "what if" versus "why it cannot happen," and possessing strong situational awareness and political agility.

 

As an Economic Development Manager at SWIF, you will work collaboratively with our Economic Development team to craft and implement innovative programs spanning business finance, entrepreneurship, workforce initiatives, and regional economic development. Your role will involve evaluating program efficiency, convening stakeholders, and presenting compelling narratives about SWIF's economic development initiatives to diverse audiences.

 

Preferred candidates will have prior economic development experience at the city, county, or regional level in Minnesota, as this will significantly contribute to the speed of success and proficiency in this role. Economic Development Officer

Are you passionate about driving economic development and fostering entrepreneurship? This role is pivotal in shaping the program's direction, with a primary focus on entrepreneurship programming/education, business financing, and special initiatives. As the Economic Development Officer, you will provide leadership in program design, offer technical assistance and business coaching, manage program budgets, cultivate relationships with stakeholders, coordinate resource providers, and spearhead professional communication, outreach, and marketing efforts. Your direct engagement with loan clients, entrepreneurs, business leaders, project partners, economic development organizations, program funders, and technical assistance partners will be instrumental in driving the success of our economic development initiatives.

 

The successful candidate should have a minimum of three years of experience working with business owners, either as one themselves or as an ecosystem partner. This firsthand experience is deemed necessary for the likelihood of success in this role. Additionally, a proven track record in economic development is assumed, bringing with it a passion for rural economic development. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to navigate government programs, effectively manage ambiguity and variables, and possess essential qualities such as patience, humility, dignity, situational awareness, and political agility.
